The sculptor Carl Kauba was born on 1865 in Vienna, Austria and reached fame because of his stunning and impressive sculptures of Indians as well as of humans. The very realistic sculptures made by the artist are great portrays of his passionate interest in the life and the traditions of the culture as well as the art of the Native Americans. Even Kauba also made many other sculptures, his figures of the Native Americans belong to his best known artwork. Especially the sculptures „Indian Chief on Horseback“, „Reclining Indian Smoking a Pipe“ or „War” should be mentioned in this context.

Kauba was great in doing filigree details; he was a master of making very detailed sculptures. Especially his detailed depictions of feathers, weapons or other artefacts made his sculptures being very special art.

Allegedly Kauba travelled to the United States of America in 1886 for doing some research as well as some studying of the Native American lifestyle and their cultural life. But some critical voices mentioned the fact, that Kauba never set a single foot on America. They said that Kauba was doing his research at his studio in his home country Austria.
But Kauba must have left his birthplace for a while for sure, because sources say that he, after he returned to Austria, started to export his sculptures in the year 1895.

Some of the characteristics of a real original made by Kauba are the very filigree details as well as a pretty much detailed surface of his bronze sculptures. The sculptor Kauba really knew how to stage little details perfectly.

Because of missing proved sources we just know the year the artist Kauba died; it was the year 1922 he past away in his birthplace Vienna, Austria. The city Vienna is nowadays a beloved resort for vacations and the birthplace of many quite famous celebrities. Vienna attracts its tourists and visitors by several great buildings, many cafes, coffee houses, the pulsating art scene and of course many museums. Some of the best known museums of Vienna are the complex of the “Hofburg” with the “Schatzkammer” (treasury), the apartments of the emperor couple, the Sisi-Museum, a museum dedicated to Sisi and the Austrian National Library. Not to far away is the Museumskomplex (complex of museums) located. This complex includes the famous Leopold Museums which is showing artworks made by Gustav Klimt and by the artists of the Vienna Secession and the Vienna Modernism.
