Modern Art

Modern Art means a period of art between the 1860s to the 1970s and is characterized by the artwork, philosophy and style of this period. It is not possible to define an exact beginning of this period, because it is just not clear.

But the opinion exist, that the Expressionism has induced the period of Modern Art by its new and extraordinary forms. The Realists and Impressionists are seen as the pioneers of that new epoch of Art.

A lot of different movements like the Cubism, Expressionism or the Futurism emerged in the early Twenties. And the artist started up to work with new materials and stopped to reanimate the old traditional movements with its typical characteristics. But the beginning of World War I stopped those new movements and brought up Anti- Art Movements like Dadaism or Surrealism.

After World War II the USA became the focal point of a new generation of Modern Art. Various artists emerged and developed new movements like Pop art, Abstract Expressionism, Minimal Art or Photo Realism. One of the most famous Museums of modern Art is the MOMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York with a huge amount of word-renowned Modern Art.
