The faun is known as a tweedy forest god of Roman mythology that appears in different natures. The female counterpart of the faun is named fauna; a female creature often considered as his sister or his wife. The faun is known as the guardian of the fertility of humans as well as of animals and he is often associated with the satyr, its Greek correspondent. As an animate being, the faun is half human and half goat. The shown sculpture was made by the famous Vienna Bronze foundry Bergmann. This foundry was founded by Franz Bergmann and was well-known for its lovely animal sculptures as well as for its stunning erotic Vienna Bronze sculptures, sometimes signed with "Namgreb"- the backwards spelled version of the name "Bergmann", but only with one "n".
